BMW today gave the green light for production of the dramatic Vision EfficientDynamics hybrid supercar shown at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. Munich admitted today that the tech underpinning the concept car was 'completely or virtually production-ready' and said that the car will be launched very much as shown in Frankfurt. It has started roadgoing tests of the 2+2 EfficientDynamics sports car and its three-cylinder turbodiesel hybrid system.
Subaru Canada has revealed the top three designs from its ‘Driving Confidence' competition. The Canadian division of the company collaborated with the artist web site deviantART and called for "original creations that celebrate the bold design, superior handling, and meticulous engineering that Subaru vehicles are renowned for."
The challenge asked for competitors to push their creativity "to the limit", which many of them did with some impressively-abstract designs. The winner won $2,500 for "Born to Rally in the Snow," the second place received $1,000 for "Unleash the Beast," while third place was awarded $500 for "Subaru Slot Car Set." The runner-up was "Subaru Impreza WRC Rally 'The Pass 2'."
All of the submissions are being displayed at Subaru's booth at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto and in the gallery above.
Mazda will sell its six-passenger 2012 Mazda5 van for a base price of $19,990, including shipping, when it goes on sale in January. The 2012 Mazda5, which Mazda calls a multi-activity vehicle, saw its North American debut at the Los Angeles auto show earlier this month. Mazda increased the base price by $730 compared to the 2010 Mazda5.
